Symbol of ascension.
This symbol was designed in 1910 to represent Universal Sufism. The Sufi movement is a mystical branch of Islam. The symbol was picked out by Hazrat Inyat Kahn to represent the Sufi order which themes were love, harmony and beauty.
The heart represents a medium between spirit and matter. The wings symbolize the heart being drawn to heaven. The crescent shows the beginning stage of the moon. The moon desires light, so the moon desires to become full. This also represents a pupil who desires to become a teacher. The best teacher is one who is a good pupil. The five-pointed star represents divine light and the beginning of life.
